The PCP accuses the Government of continuing to reject solutions to “save the SNS”

The PCP today accused the Government of continuing to reject solutions to “save the SNS”, which according to the communists go through improving careers and remuneration, a regime of exclusive dedication and expansion of specialized medical training.

This position was transmitted by the parliamentary leader of the PCP, Paula Santos, after the Minister of Health, Marta Temido, announced that the Government will proceed with “a contingency plan for the months of June, July, August and September” to seek to solve the shortage of doctors in the emergency services of public hospitals.

In a video of about two minutes, Paula Santos considers that “the Government continues to refuse solutions that are absolutely essential to face the current situation of the National Health System. [SNS]”, which had already been rejected under the State Budget for 2022.

“In fact, it was the lack of response in the State Budgets, either in October, when it was discussed, or now in May, the lack of response to save the SNS that led the PCP to vote against the State Budgets. Condition. The State Budgets do not contain the answers that are necessary to reinforce the investment in the SNS”, he says.

For the PCP, “the hiring and retention of health professionals in the SNS to ensure the proper functioning of the health services requires the assessment of the career and remuneration of all its workers” and also “requires the implementation of the regime of exclusive dedication with the salary increase”.

“It demands the expansion of the attribution of incentives for the establishment of health professionals in deprived areas. It also requires the expansion of specialized medical training and investment in facilities and equipment and the internalization of complementary means of diagnosis and therapy, as proposed by the PCP”, adds Paula Santos.

The deputy and communist leader says that “the PCP has been warning for some time about the problem of the lack of doctors and the bleeding of health professionals in the SNS” and observes: “Unfortunately, reality is proving us right.”

The parliamentary leader of the PCP maintains that “the failure of the PS Government to adopt the solutions that are necessary not only leads to the degradation of the SNS, but also turns the PS and the Government into accomplices of those who seek to degrade it, seek to discredit the SNS with the aim of transferring care provision to private groups that feed the disease business”.

“Investing in the SNS, enhancing its capacity, valuing health professionals are the solution to save the SNS”, he argues.
