The possibility that users without a family doctor choose one in the private or social sector or the implementation of Model C Family Health Units are two of the five proposals of the Liberal Initiative (IL) for urgent health problems.
In statements to the Lusa agency, the deputy of the Liberal Initiative (IL) Joana Cordeiro detailed the five legislative initiatives that the party presented this week in parliament and that will give rise to discussion in the debate on the mandatory (mandatory) agenda with the theme “SOS SNS” that he marked for June 30th.
“In recent days they have alerted us again to problems that exist, but which are obviously problems that have already been dragging on. It is not a conjunctural issue, but it is a problem of designing the model that we have in health, ”she said,
According to the deputy, IL marked this debate “with the main objective of discussing the state of health in Portugal without taboos, without dogmas, without ideological prejudices”, with the intention of presenting solutions to the urgent problems that exist.
“In IL we believe that we should have a national health system in which the user has to be at the center of the system, they have to have the freedom to choose where and by whom they want to be treated, and it is this access that the State has to guarantee. .”, summarized.
Thus, among the five projects (four resolutions and one law) there is one proposal”regarding the recovery of healthcare activity”a problem that Joana Cordeiro considers “very immediate”.
“We have two mechanisms that already exist today, which are the SIGA SNS for consultations and the SIGIC for surgeries, and what we want to do is expand the scope of these two mechanisms so that the entire health system is involved, all service providers in in order to respond in a timely manner to people who need consultations and surgeries,” he explained.
In relation to family doctors, the Liberal deputy said that “the Government had a goal of being a family doctor for everyone, which apparently has given up.”
But we think it’s still important because if people have access to primary health care, the pressure on hospital settings is reduced. Our proposal is as simple as: if the State cannot provide a family doctor to the user, the user can choose a doctor from the private or social sector and the State guarantees that access”, she detailed.
The Liberals still want to regulate and implement the Model C USF, as it “hasn’t gotten off the ground yet.”
“What we are proposing is that they be implemented because it is obviously a model that guarantees greater autonomy. It is the fastest way to reach full system capacity.“, he defended.
Joana Cordeiro advanced the initiative to create a universal electronic medical record that “will allow any provider from any sector to have access to the patient’s clinical information, something that does not happen today.”
“The latest proposal has to do with the SNS debt settlement plan with suppliers,” he added.
Asked about the expectation of approval of some of these initiatives that the party insists on, the IL deputy said that “these proposals are not new” because “they have to do with those that IL has been presenting.”
“Our expectation is that the PS, which has an absolute majority, will worry about solving the problems we have today. We are showing proposals that, in the short term, could work”, he challenged.
