Mortgage. Opinion changes opinion and amazes deputies

After all, Mariana Mortágua is to blame, or not, for being paid to be a commentator for the SIC while she was an exclusive deputy in Parliament. Thanks to an investigation opened by the Public Ministry, the matter returned to the hands of the Transparency Commission, through a new proposal for an opinion that is generating controversy among the deputies and that has already motivated the denunciations of the Left Bloc, convinced that everything boils to a “personal attack” from the right against Mariana Mortágua. And it is that, after a long meeting (about three hours), the deputies even decided to postpone the vote on the new opinion, which was scheduled for this Wednesday.

The new draft opinion, which would be voted on this afternoon in the Transparency Committee, began to be reported on Tuesday by CNN, taking some deputies by surprise, according to the Observer. Because? Because this time, and in contradiction to a previous opinion approved by the same commission in March, the conclusion is that Mortágua improperly received the amounts paid by the SIC between 2015 and 2019, a period in which Transparency had not yet ruled on whether this collaboration could, or could not, be paid to a deputy exclusively to clarify the interpretation of the law by Parliament —which was already the same and that had already made several deputies from other benches opt not to be so exclusively, since they understood that this status, for which receiving a separate amount, was not compatible with the role of commentator.
