PSD/Azores accuses the PS of “total bewilderment” over the port of Lajes destroyed by hurricane

The PSD/Azores accused the PS this Friday of “total confusion” over the port of Lajes das Flores, destroyed by Hurricane Lorenzo in 2019, reiterating that the construction of the new pier will allow “almost tripling the berthing capacity.”

In a press release, the party that heads the Regional Government (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM) condemned the recent statements by the socialist regional deputy José Eduardo on the commercial port of the island of Flores, accusing the parliamentarian of “denying himself.”

According to the PSD, the PS’s position reveals a “total bewilderment about the importance of the work presented and about the real needs of the Florentines, the accessibility and the economic development that is wanted for the island”.

The reaction comes after the PS/Azores accused the Azorean executive of not having concluded, in almost two years, the recovery project of the port of Lajes das Flores, limiting himself to presenting what the PS left of the previous executive.

With astonishment we realized that, in addition to the fact that all the information that the regional government now transmits was already presented in the preliminary study for 2020, it is the Government itself that confirms that there is not yet a finalized project”, said a socialist. regional deputy José Eduardo, elected by the island of Flores.

For the social democratic deputy Ricardo Vieira, quoted in the statement, “It is incomprehensible that the PS criticizes the fact that the current Government of the Azores has taken advantage of the study presented in 2020, but with a much lower estimate of the cost of the work”.

The PS deputy elected by Flores said less than two weeks ago that the Regional Government was preparing to make cuts in the project for the new port of Lajes das Flores. Now it’s time to say that the project, after all, is identical to the one presented in August 2020″, accused the PSD regional parliamentarian, also elected by Flores.

The deputy stressed that the new pontoon will continue to have 170 meters of mooring, but it will be “reinforced with a 100-meter protection” and with a dock that will have “140 meters of mooring on both sides.”

The port remodeling project and the construction of the new dock will almost triple the berthing capacity, but with better operating conditions and increasing the entire response capacity of the commercial port of Flores,” reads the press release.

On Wednesday, the Government of the Azores announced that the sanitation and construction project of the new main jetty of the port of Lajes das Flores will triple the berthing capacity and guarantee new operating conditions.

The dock of the port of Flores, the only commercial port on the island, was destroyed after the passage of Hurricane Lorenzo, in October 2019, causing limitations in the supply to the population.
