The government and the medical unions resumed the meeting this Tuesday to agree on the terms of the negotiation, without the representative structures of the doctors abdicating from the requirement to include the salary scale in the negotiation protocol.
At the last meeting, which took place on July 13, the Independent Physicians Union (SIM) and the National Federation of Physicians (FNAM) presented a counterproposal to the negotiation protocol presented by the Ministry of Health so that the salary scale of these professionals was included in the negotiations.
Given this, the meeting was suspended and will resume this Tuesday, with the general secretary of SIM informing the Portuguese agency that he hopes that now the “protocol comes to fruition” so that it is possible, in practice, to start negotiations negotiations.

After the last meeting between both parties, the FNAM admitted that it will go on strike if the review of Medicine careers and salary scales is not included in the negotiation protocol already in today’s meeting with the Ministry of Health.
The union structure, which brought together its National Council, understands that the “Government intends to negotiate only specific measures”, which “do not have a concrete translation in a real improvement of working conditions, nor in a fair and dignified remuneration” of the workers. The National Council ordered its Executive Committee to declare a doctors’ strike if these requirements are not “satisfactorily met” at the next meeting with the ministerial structures, the FNAM said in a statement at the time.
