PSP could have more police stations closed during the month of August

The case of a police station closed in Porto due to lack of resources is not unique in Portugal and the month of August could worsen the situation, warned Paulo Santos, president of the Association of Police Professionals (ASPP), in statements to Diário de Notícias. . . Next month there is “vacation period and, in addition to that, there are those who are on long vacations and end up losing a lot of balance in the service at police stations,” said the trade unionist.

“We cannot get a clear number of how many troops are missing. In terms of ratio we are fine, but there are policemen who are only in administrative functions and there are others who went to the SEF, for example”, he explained, stressing that “the problem is not only in Porto or Lisbon” and recalling the case of the Azores, in which “there have been police stations for months that have had to close the service due to lack of personnel”, and also that of the Ermesinde police station, which has already closed for the same reasons.
