The PCP demanded this Wednesday that the Government put an end to the “patch policy“, adopt structural measures to respond lack of police personnel and considered that the “mobile squads” are not a solution.
In a statement, the PCP considered that the Government “opted for palliative and dilatory measures without measuring everything that certain options imply“, considering that placing mobile police stations in more touristic areas does not solve the problem.
“This ‘solution’ based on mobile stations aims to not only hide the lack of troops how to put an end to a community police and create super squads”, warned the PCP.
Regarding the measures announced by the Minister of the Internal Administration (MAI) to free the police from administrative tasks with a view to reinforcing patrolling the streets, the PCP warned that this type of work “it is not a mere bureaucratic aspect, as the MAI knows or should know“.
“It is absurd to consider that this work, by its nature, can be transferred to the Parish Boards or other municipal bodies,” said the PCP.
The party maintained that “it is urgent to put an end to a policy of patchwork and begin to respond with measures of a structural nature and abandon the policy of juggling and illusion and adopt measures that really respond to the problems of Internal Security.”
The PCP demanded measures of “assessment and dignity of careers, as well as salary, risk subsidy and other social support“, to ensure “attractive conditions”.
The Minister of the Interior Administration, José Luís Carneiro, promised last Monday more police on the street, and defended that there is a set of participations carried out in police stations that can be carried out in other structures, such as citizen stores or parish councils.
After the partial closure of the service at the Infante police station in Porto, due to “low participation”, the minister said that the Porto police will test, on Saturday, a model of mobile care units.
“We will start this experience on July 30th.Saturday, at 12 noon, and we want these mobile service units to move to places where there is a greater influx of tourism,” said the minister.
