PS deputies repudiate “intimidating purposes” of the Russian embassy against Abrunhosa

A group of socialist deputies expressed solidarity with Pedro Abrunhosa and repudiated the “intimidating intentions” issued by the Russian diplomatic representation in Portugal regarding a concert in which the artist was protesting against the war in Ukraine.

In a statement, deputies Francisco César, Paulo Pisco, Nathalie Oliveira, Diogo Leão, Jamila Madeira, João Pedro Matos Fernandes, Tiago Estêvão Martins, Anabela Real, José Iglésias, Eunice Pratas, Maria João, Susana Correia, Gil Costa, Cláudia Santos , members of the parliamentary committee on Foreign Affairs, consider “Totally unacceptable” the statement from the Russian embassy in Lisbon against the artist.

Socialist deputies maintain that Pedro Abrunhosa protested “in his own way and in the use of his freedoms” against a war that “has lasted too long and has already caused too many victims, destruction and suffering.”

The PS deputies who sign the note defend that “the intimidating purposes of an artist” are also an intimidation “for all Portuguese artists and citizens, so it is not tolerable” that the embassy “acts contrary to the rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution“.

“It deserves, therefore, our most vehement repudiation,” they complete.

For the group of socialists, as much as the Russian Federation “tries to silence the outrage over the barbaric and inhuman aggression suffered by Ukraine” since February 24, “the brutal consequences at the world level in food and energy matters summon all voices of the world free to condemn Russian aggression and ask for peace”, add the socialists.
