The plan against racism announced by the Government a year ago and which intended to create 500 Higher Education places for students from TEIP schools (Priority Intervention Educational Territories) was not put into practice. According to Jornal de Notícias, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education (MCTES) confirmed the non-inclusion of this new clause in the competition for access to universities.
The measure in question was published a year ago in the Diário da República, it was one of the novelties of the National Plan Against Racism and Discrimination and intended to “mitigate inequalities”, but it ended up not coming out of the drawer —the initial idea being that Vacancies quadruple in three years, with 1,000 vacancies in 2023, 1,500 in 2024, and 2,000 in 2025.
“The measure did not advance in the national access contest. During the second half of this year, a reflection on the general system of access to Higher Education will be promoted, at which time this issue will be considered,” the office of the Minister of Education assured the newspaper, noting that there will be an evaluation of the measure. , taking into account that the Government program refers to a review of the system of access to Higher Education.
