Ventura presents a motion of confidence to his leadership. “There are factions that think our opposition is too aggressive”

André Ventura will present a motion of confidence to his leadership, so that the Chega militants decide if they agree with the direction the party is taking and understand what, after all, is the size of the “fraction” that does not He agrees with the direction Chega is taking. He opposes it.

With the departure of Gabriel Mithá Ribeiro from the Vice Presidency of Chega and the possibility of also leaving the parliamentary group on the table, the internal problems in the party are becoming more and more evident. And Ventura, who was speaking with journalists in the Algarve, says that he wants to shake off his stubbornness and return the floor to the militants: “Understanding that in a democracy it is the militants who choose, yesterday I informed the president of the national council that I intend to present a motion of confidence to decide if it is the path – the path that led us to the third political force – that they want”.

And, arguing that he does not like to “pretend” that there are no problems in the party when there are —“this is not the PCP,” he joked—, Ventura specified the reasons for the splits within Chega. “I am not indifferent to what was said [por Mithá Ribeiro], as well as criticism of the mayors of Chega. It is evident that today there is a faction in the party, which I think is a minority, that understands that our style of opposition has perhaps been too aggressive and assertive”.

The problems in the parliamentary group were also exposed with the departure of Mithá Ribeiro, since the resigning deputy has already said that he does not rule out the possibility of remaining as an unregistered deputy, and only assumes that he will even fulfill his mandate until the end.

With much criticism of the party’s leadership, Mithá gave a press conference this week in which he stressed that Chega is very inward looking and towards “sterile” and internal problems, pointed out divisions among the group of deputies and regretted that Ventura did not is to better articulate the party with society, opening it to a more intellectual and academic side.

Apparently, an opinion that is not isolated in the party, but that could cost Ventura, in this case, the loss of the first deputy, after having already lost five councilors since last year’s local elections.

Ora Ventura says that she believes that this is not going to happen and she is “doing everything” so that —the transition to unregistered status, which would mean the loss of a deputy to Chega— does not happen. But she tried to send an authoritative message, warning that she does not negotiate with “preconditions”: “A group has to have rules and leadership. Just like a football team has to have a coach, if not each one on their own”. Ventura is now trying to control the problems at the Chega resort.
