The Ministry of Agriculture and Food has announced this Friday that it has made the payment of aid to livestock producers affected by the fires, to finance the purchase of feed, for a total amount of 490 thousand euros.
“The Ministry of Agriculture and Food, through the Institute of Agricultural and Fisheries Financing, IP (IFAP), delivered this Friday support to livestock producers affected by the fires, to support the purchase of food for animals, which had a deadline application that ran from August 17 to 24, with the amounts available in the farmers’ account in the next two business days,” reads a statement sent to the newsrooms.
According to the ministry of Maria do Céu Antunes, “during this first period of applications received by the IFAP, a total of 906 applications were received to support the feeding of 4,829 cattle, 31,360 sheep and goats and another 414 equines, providing a total help of 490 a thousand euros”.
According to a note, “the adopted administrative procedure allowed for speeding up the speed of payments, to meet the pressing needs of producers.”
This support, which had an initial endowment of 500,000 euros, from the endowment of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, will be reinforced by a new support, amounting to 500,000 euros, from the civil protection emergency account, under the terms of Decree-law no. 112/2008, of July 1, whose candidacies “will be opened in the next few days.”
“These aids are granted to deal with the damage caused by the fires that have occurred in the meantime, that is, the destruction of pastures intended for feeding cattle, sheep, goats and horses, for a total amount of one million euros. for producers affected by rural fires”, says the ministry.
The definition of the covered parishes is based on surveys carried out by the respective Regional Directorates of Agriculture and Fisheries and through an evaluation of the burned area.
