Coach Moreno stressed this Friday that Vitória de Guimarães must combine the “rational” and “emotional” parts of the game to try to beat Sporting de Braga on Saturday, in a match on the fifth day of the Portuguese Football League.
Born in Guimarães, the 41-year-old coach recalled that a match like the Minho derby is “always very good to play”, whether “as an athlete, coach, fan”, and recognized the effort to try to make people understand their players. how “special” the game is, between the technical-tactical work done for the duel with a rival of “quality and competence”, second in the table.
“We prepared the game emotionally. We made them understand that we are talking about a derby. There are three points at stake, but this is a special game. There is also the rational part. In relation to the first 45 minutes with Casa Pía, we have to be more aggressive and balanced in the loss of the ball, understand the spaces and moments of the game and how to put the men in the definition zones”, he said, in the preview of the game scheduled for 3:30 p.m., in Braga.
Convinced that the first 45 minutes of Monday, in the defeat against Casapiano (1-0), were the worst in the championship, Moreno said that he believed in a return to victory if the Guimarães had “concentration, rigor and discipline” against a rival with 17 goals scored and three conceded.
“They do a lot of three players, to open the sides and play inside Iuri Medeiros and Ricardo Horta. We understand all the details. Even on throw-ins, they quickly return the ball. We spent a week preparing the defensive moment, but also the moment with the ball. I think we can create danger and that we are going to score goals”, he continued.
Although there are no “perfect teams”, the ‘helmsman’ from Guimarães recognized that the Arsenal players have a “very strong entry into the game” -they add five goals in the first 15 minutes-, so it is “extremely important” that the Victorians enter the field well, without forgetting to maintain the “focus for the 90 minutes”.
Moreno will meet with Artur Jorge, now coach of the Braga first team, whom he found last season in the B teams of League 3, and defended that both coaches are “privileged” to go from the third to the first division, when He who, in his opinion, was the best coach in League 3 last season, Bruno China, at the service of Felgueiras, finds himself without a club.
“I consider myself privileged and lucky to be here. The great learning is realizing the opportunity I had. I want to stick with the job and realize that it is possible to be successful, that it is possible to motivate myself even more. As for the knowledge we have of each other, with the tools we have today it is easier”, she underlined.
The coach also said that he believes a lot in his players, although “they are not the best in the world”, after the transfer market closed, and promised to repeat the use of Afonso Freitas on the right side of the defense, a player who was making his debut in the absolute one with Casa Pia and that he was “whistling” after being involved in the Lisbon goal, a situation that led Moreno to ask the fans for “understanding”.
“I cannot understand how a boy with all his training at Vitória, who has dreamed of making his debut at the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques since he was a child, misses a pass and starts being called. The main pillar of the club is the passion of the fans, but I ask for more understanding towards the athletes. Afonso will play in Braga again. It is my conviction,” he revealed.
Vitória de Guimarães, in eighth place, with six points, faces Sporting de Braga, second, with 10, in a match scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, at the Estádio Municipal de Braga, with arbitration by Nuno Almeida, of the Algarve association.
