Farmers affected by large fires can request aid of up to 30 million euros

Farmers with farms affected by this summer’s major fires can apply for support to restore lost agricultural production potential, for a lump sum of 30 million euros, according to the criteria published this Thursday.

An order, published this Thursday in the Diário da República, recognizes as “natural disasters” several large rural fires that, in the months of July and August of this year, affected a large number of municipalities, especially in the North and Center, “with consequences in terms of the productive potential of various farms”.

They can opt for this aid, for a total amount of 30 million euros (ME), farms located in the parishes registered in the diploma, as long as they have registered damages that exceed 30% of their agricultural potentialtaking into account the animals, the multi-annual plantations, the machinery, the equipment, the warehouses and other constructions that support the agricultural activity.

The support is granted as a non-reimbursable subsidy based on the level of losses recorded, according to sections: 100% for eligible expenses equal to or less than 5,000 euros, 85% for eligible expenses greater than 2,000 and up to 50,000 euros and 50% for eligible expenses greater to 50,000 and up to 800,000. EITHER the minimum amount of eligible expenditure is 100 euros and, in cases where the eligible expenses exceed 800 000, the aid is granted up to the limit of this amount.

Applications for support can be submitted at Portal of Portugal 2020 (www.portugal2020.pt) or the Regional Development Program 2020 (www.pdr-2020.pt) until November 22 of this year.

The diploma considers as affected the parishes of the regional directorates of Agriculture and Fisheries of the North (in the municipalities of Amarante, Baião, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Chaves, Mirandela, Murça, Ponte da Barca, Ribeira de Pena, Valpaços, Vila Pouca de Aguar and Vila Real) and the Center (Águeda, Albergaria-a-Velha, Alvaiázere, Ansião, Belmonte, Celorico da Beira, Covilhã, Estarreja, Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, Fornos de Algodres, Fundão, Góis, Gouveia, Guarda, Leiria, Mangualde, Manteigas, Oliveira do Hospital, Penacova , Penalva do Castelo, Pinhel, Pombal, Sabugal, Seia, Sever do Vouga and Trancoso).

In Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, the parishes of the municipalities of Abrantes, Ourém, Palmela and Rio Maior are covered, and in the Algarve, the parishes of the municipalities of Faro, Loulé and Silves.
