The leader of Chega asked the President of the Republic this Thursday to “call the attention” of the Government to “the differences” between ministers and asked that the opinion of the “biggest parties” be taken into account when choosing the new Lisbon airport.
In statements to journalists in Passos Perdidos, in the Assembly of the Republic, André Ventura referred to the statements of the Minister of Finance, Fernando Medina, who considered it not “appropriate” to be anticipating changes in the IRC, after the Minister of Economy defended the benefit of a transversal reduction of this tax.
For Andre Ventura, “This type of divergence only discredits the government, generates insecurity in the people and instability in the market, and this has to end”.
In this sense, the leader of Chega said that he had written to the Presidency of the Republic, asking Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to “call the attention of the Government that the macroeconomic scenario must be put on the table and that the ministers cannot get away from the”. debate in the public square and disagree in the public square on such an important matter”.
We are contacting the Presidency of the Republic today, as a third party, and we ask the President to intervene in this, to draw the attention of the Government, and to request coordination between the members of the Government,” he said.
The Chega leader also said that he had asked Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to “influence the government in the sense that other parties”, in addition to the PSD, get involved in choosing the location of the new Lisbon airport.
“António Costa announced that he would receive Luís Montenegro on Friday, which for us is positive, that the two largest parties meet in the Assembly of the Republic. But this is a multi-decade project, and therefore must involve all the majority parties of the Assembly of the Republic”, he considered.
According to André Ventura, “every day there are signs in the polls that the political system is changing, and that there are parties like Chega and the Liberal Initiative, which are increasingly also having a relevant political expression.”
“For this reason, today Chega returned and again appealed to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, both in economic matters and in matters of large works and large infrastructures, not to let the Government do what it wants, and not to let the PS binomial -PSD continues to govern Portugal as it wants”, he said.
On Wednesday, Fernando Medina sent possible tax changes to companies, specifically at the IRC level, to negotiate with the social partners, after the Minister of Economy defended the benefit of a transversal reduction of this tax.
“This is an issue that is currently being negotiated in good faith, with a spirit of openness, dialogue and respect for the partners at the negotiating table and not in the public square,” said Fernando Medina, speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the 7 .º Congress of Public Accountants, held in Lisbon.
After the Minister of Economy, António Costa Silva, defended that a reduction in corporate tax across all companies would be “an extremely important signal for the entire industry” and “extremely beneficial” in the face of the current crisis, Medina preferred to send a position at the end of the negotiations.
“In this matter of the IRC, as in all matters of the agreement, the Government has a voice. The voice that defines itself collectively, the voice that is the prime minister, the voice of the ministers who participate in a negotiation,” he said, adding: “I, at least, will reserve myself for the end of the negotiation to talk about the theme”.
