“LIV Golf will be on The Hill this week to meet with lawmakers from both sides,” LIV Golf spokesman Jonathan Grella told ESPN on Monday. “Given the PGA Tour’s attempts to stall our progress in reinventing the game, we think it’s important to educate members on LIV’s business model and counter the Tour’s anti-competitive efforts.”
Norman and his colleagues hope that Congress will take their allegations seriously that the PGA Tour violated antitrust laws. LIV also hopes to persuade Congress to decide that affiliation with the Saudi-backed agency is not a major issue.
But Norman’s new LIV Golf league is supported by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. From day one, this connection has been one of the biggest flaws in LIV’s reputation as a serious attempt to build a league to rival the PGA Tour.
Chip Roy (D-TX), another member of the Representative Republican Committee of Investigation, isn’t a big fan of the LIV either. Roy urged the Justice Department to investigate Norman’s possible violation of the Foreign Agent Registration Act by failing to register as a representative of the Saudi Arabian government.
