As the USA women’s team celebrates their recent equal pay deal with the men’s team, we look back to the day when they couldn’t even beat a 15-year-old men’s team.
On Wednesday, the U.S. Soccer Federation announced that it has agreed to pay the men’s and women’s associations the same amount of wages, benefits and bonuses as part of a collective bargaining agreement that will run through 2028.
The deal has been in place for several years, as female band members have long campaigned for equal pay with their male counterparts.
The women even sued the US Football Association for forcing the league to pay them the same amount as the male players.
But even while testifying at the trial, USWNT star Carey Lloyd admitted that the women’s team isn’t as strong, fast or good as the players on the USA men’s team.

His confession is not just speculation. There is strong evidence for the claim that female players do not play at the same level as men. In fact, a few years ago the USA women’s team proved that men play at a higher level than women.
In 2017, the USA women’s team played an exhibition match with FC Dallas against the under-15 team. The famous women’s team, the winner of the 2019 Women’s World Cup, suffered a heavy defeat in the final with a score of 5: 2.

The financial situation also shows that the USA men’s team is playing at a different level than USWNT. For example, in 2018, the Men’s World Cup grossed an impressive $3,572 billion worldwide. On the other hand, the highest-paid World Women’s Championship in a series in 2019 was 1.12 billion dollars.
The fact is that men’s football outsells women’s football in terms of tickets and sponsors and attracts millions of spectators.
Women’s soccer isn’t quite the same as men’s soccer, as it has proven to be youthful beating the U.S. women’s team and average annual income. Therefore, paying women the same as men means that women have the potential to earn more than men, when measured by how much they bring into the league.
