A biological man who had a surfing medal as a male claimed to be transgender, suddenly dominating the women’s surfing competition in Australia.
Outkick notes on Sunday that Sasha Jane Lawerson, who previously competed as Ryan Egan, won the 2022 Australian West Coast Longboard and Lumberjack Championship, four points ahead of her nearest born rival Outkick.
Lawerson competed under the name Ryan Egan in 2019, when he won the same title in the men’s division. And Egan/Lowerson became the first person to win the men’s and women’s championship in Australia.
Many people were outraged, saying that Egan/Lowerson’s achievements seemed like excellent proof of how unfair it was for trans women to compete with natural women.
I know professionals in the skateboarding industry who refuse to speak on behalf of female athletes, even when they complain privately about what’s going on.
