The ATP has announced that no ranking points will be awarded to Wimbledon tennis players this year if the ban on Russian and Belarusian players remains in place.

Wimbledon officials have announced a total ban on Russian and Belarusian players since last April due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The association said in a statement: “The participation of players of any nationality in tournaments is based on merit and without discrimination, which are two important things for our sport.”
“Wimbledon’s decision to ban Russian and Belarusian players from competing in the UK this summer undermines that principle and undermines the integrity of the league’s ranking system, and is also contrary to our classification agreement.”

The statement concluded: “If the situation does not change, it is with great regret that we will have no choice but to withdraw classification points from Wimbledon in 2022.”
