A Texas police detective said he determined that Cleveland Browns player Deshawn Watson committed the crimes while investigating allegations of sexual harassment.
By America TodayDetective Kamesha Baker of the Houston Police Department made her decision in a pre-trial transcript.
The transcript said Baker thinks he has plenty of evidence against the struggling NFL player that should lead to sexual misconduct charges.
Baker was also asked: “As an investigator, do you have any doubts that a crime has been committed?” To which he replied “No”.
Baker said he told prosecutor Jonah Stallings at the district attorney’s office that the allegations appeared “believable.”
“I said we found the applicants credible and credible,” Baker said in the minutes. “So we have issued a warrant saying they are reliable and trustworthy.”
Baker added that there is no disagreement among members of the investigative team as to the credibility of the allegations.
The detective also denied launching an investigation, assuming Watson was at fault, but the actor’s team nevertheless accused him of bias.
Graham said, without considering the detective’s work, “While I value the detective’s honesty, his admitted bias and non-compliance with the law is unacceptable and should be a serious concern to all.”
In the end, after the investigation, no charges were brought against the detective, but it was not his job to bring charges. It is within the jurisdiction of investigation only.
“I start by believing all the victims,” Baker said when asked about the issue. “No dear. Be one hundred percent sure of that. Anyone investigating a sex crime must begin with the conviction of the complainant. If the defense finds anything to disprove that, we will believe that plaintiff,” he said.
Baker was unable to question Watson during his investigation.
In the end, the detective said that in the ten cases he investigated, Watson’s behavior appeared as sexual harassment or abuse of power.
While prosecutors have denied Watson’s sexual misconduct charges, the actress is currently the target of civil lawsuits filed by 24 women. Everyone has sued, from harassment to sexual harassment and even rape.
