Former Germany striker Miroslav Klose, the top scorer in World Cup history, will take the first coaching job of his career after he was appointed coach of Altach Austria on Friday. The club announced in a statement that Klose will sign a contract on Sunday to be shown on Monday.

“I’m looking forward to my new job here,” Klose, 44, said in a statement. “I had a positive feeling from the beginning of the negotiations.” Previously, Klose served as assistant coach for Germany (2016-2018) and Bayern Munich (2020-2021). He retired from international football in 2014, a month after his contribution to Germany winning the World Cup at the expense of Argentina in the final.
At the World Cup in Brazil, he scored his 16th goal in the World Cup final, breaking the previous record of 15 set by Brazilian phenom Ronaldo. He is also the top scorer in Mannshaft history with 71 goals in 137 games.
He retired from football in 2016 after playing the last five seasons of his career with Italian side Lazio. He worked as an assistant national team coach with Joachim Löw before overseeing the Bayern under-17 team.
In the 2020-2021 season, he worked with Hansi Flick as an assistant on FC Bayern’s first team, playing with him between 2007 and 2011 and winning league titles with him in 2008 and 2010.
