From players to members of the media and sports leagues, the world of sports began to weigh in on the US Supreme Court decision.
Just minutes after the US Supreme Court decision that changed the nearly 50-year-old abortion precedent set by NBA star LeBron James, he began retweeting pre-written tweets from former President Barack Obama denouncing the decision.
But James wasn’t the only athlete talking.
The Women’s National Basketball Association called the decision “treacherous”. And then the public comments on the tweet were immediately shut down.
This decision makes a deceptive abortion ban, which reinforces economic, social and political inequalities and could lead to higher maternal mortality and deprivation of all rights to reproductive freedom. #BansOffOurBodies pic.twitter.com/ND8kcx3viL

New York City’s Gotham Football Club also entered the debate to “appeal” the Supreme Court decision:

Gotham FC also urged fans to support abortion:
Take action now. supports @ReproRights whose mission is to fight for greater access to abortion: https://t.co/EuhnbVrHwP

But others in and around the sports world have spoken:
Supreme Court, Roe v. Wade, who has been advocating for the right to abortion for nearly 50 years.
This decision will not end with abortion.
Where it ends is safe and legal access to this important medical procedure.
It was a sad day in the United States.

The Supreme Court made it possible to force women to give birth. DETERMINING THE RIGHTS OF WOMEN TO MAKE DECISION ABOUT THEIR OWN BODY. Despite all the progress of women in this country, today is a devastating day for women’s rights. Attacking women. #RoyVsWade

I am sad, offended and angry about today’s decision. We will not allow the tireless work and sacrifices of our predecessors to be easily forgotten or destroyed. Our communities need our voice and support. HORSE @GothamFCWe will do our best to be close to our family.

Faith is incredible.
Religion is cancer.

It seems strange to me that those who say that my body is my choice of vaccine are the same people who give up this right to women.
This is not a political discussion, this is a humanitarian one.

Whatever your view, an apolitical statement on a historic day: we are two countries living within the same borders. And it will only get worse. And it’s not sustainable.

When you are told that this is not politics (add anything that interests people) remember this week.
Religion
the game
Education
relationships
abortion
blue pills
FrameAll of this and more is decided by people you probably won’t even name.

It is important for men to raise their voices in the world of sports. You are protesting. Donate to the abortion fund. If you don’t influence this time, it doesn’t mean that the next thing for them won’t affect you – there is no such thing as “workout” when it goes right.

Yesterday: IX. Giving equal rights to women in sports. It’s the title’s 50th anniversary. Today: Cancellation of 50 years of abortion rights.
Don’t take anything lightly.

Women’s Sports Matter believes abortion is a human right. Denying access to abortion does not stop abortion; this makes it extremely unsafe and people can die. Also, abortion happens outside of women and we need to use inclusive language when talking about it.

There will definitely be new ones in the hours and days after this grave Supreme Court decision. But he was one of the first commentators.
