Teresa Bonvalot becomes national surfing champion

Surfer Teresa Bonvalot became the national champion on Sunday, qualifying for the Allianz Ribeira Grande Pro final, the fourth and penultimate stage of the MEO Surf League, which takes place in Ribeira Grande, São Miguel.

On the last day of the competition in Praia do Areal de Santa Bárbara, Bonvalot advanced to the semifinals, where she won the duel with Carolina Mendes, achieving the best score of the event (18.75) and the two best waves, which earned him 9.50 and 9.25 points, respectively.

With qualification for the final, the 22-year-old surfer secured the national title in advance, the fourth of your careerafter triumphs in 2014, 2015 and 2020.

“I am very happy for this achievement. Conditions couldn’t be better. This year I did not even expect to do so many stages, but I am very happy with this title”, said Teresa Bonvalot, quoted by the National Association of Surfers.

Teresa Bonvalot started the MEO Surf League with a second place finish in Figueira da Foz, before triumphing in the next two stages, in Porto and Ericeira. The Cascais surfer will still be able to take the stage from her in São Miguel, if she beats the junior Maria Salgado today in the final.

The fifth and final stage of the MEO Surf League takes place in Peniche, between October 28 and 30.
