Pope Francis asked this Sunday not to forget the Ukrainian people affected by the war and called for dialogue in Ecuador, at the end of the traditional Angelus prayer, held at the Apostolic Palace in Saint Petersburg.
“I see that there are Ukrainian flags,” Francis said, recalling that in the country “The bombings that cause death, destruction and suffering to the population continue”.
In the square were some groups of Ukrainian refugees in Italy.
“Please let us not forget these war-affected people. Let us not forget them in our hearts and in our prayers.“, said the pontiff, who also recalled the violent protests in Ecuador, calling on all parties to abandon violence and extreme positions, recalling that “Only through dialogue can social peace be achieved”.
Addressing Ecuador, the Pope said: “I ask all parties to abandon violence and extreme positions. Only with dialogue can we achieve, I hope, social peace, paying attention to the marginalized and poorest populations, but always respecting the rights of all and the country’s institutions.”

Regarding Ukraine, the pontiff said that “a diabolical violence that destroys life” was unleashed in the country.
Ukrainian authorities reported new Russian attacks in the center of the country, following those in the capital, and at least one person was killed in the city of Cherkasy, regional sources said.
