The International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed an appeal filed by Russia against a decision to ban its teams and teams from participating in FIFA and European football tournaments.

The two federations imposed a ban on the participation of Russian teams and clubs in their tournaments on February 28, a few days after the start of Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine.

The Russian Football Association and a group of Russian clubs have filed an appeal with the Kassa Court against the ban, but on Friday the court announced that the appeal had been dismissed.

There were 5 appeals from Russia, the first was from the Russian Federation against its international counterpart, the second against the European Union, and 4 appeals from Zenit St. Paul clubs. Petersburg, Sochi, CSKA Moscow and Dynamo Moscow, which are supposed to participate in the European Championship.

The Cass Court justified its decision by saying “the escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the reaction of the public and governments around the world, has created unforeseen and unprecedented circumstances that require reaction from to FIFA and UEFA. ”

This ban prevented the Russian team from participating in the 2022 World Cup qualifying playoffs in Qatar, and also prevented the women’s team from participating in Euro 2022 football competitions.
