Algerian striker Riyad Mahrez has extended his contract with Premier League champions Manchester City until 2025, the Citizens Club announced on Friday. The extension was a reward for Mahrez, who helped City retain the Premier League title. Since coming from Leicester City for £ 60m ($ 71m) four years ago, Mahrez has made 189 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s team, scoring 63 goals and providing 45 assists. The 31-year-old has also won three Premier League titles, three League Cups and an FA Cup with City.

Explaining his stance on the extension, Mahrez said: “I am very happy to sign the new agreement. I enjoyed every minute spent here. I’m excited to be a part of this wonderful club. ” “Our contribution to the success of the last four seasons is unforgettable and has left us all hungry for more.” “I also want to thank Pep Guardiola and the coaching staff for how they helped me grow as a player and pushed me to continue,” Mahrez added.
Mahrez scored 24 goals for City in all competitions last season and looks set to play a big role next season following the departures of Gabriel Jesus of Brazil and Raheem Sterling of England.
In this regard, Manchester City manager Txiki Begiristain said of Mahrez: “Riyadh has contributed to our success in the four years since he joined us.”
