The organizing committee of the Islamic Games “Konya 2021” has postponed the matches of the second group in the football competition after the refusal of the Iranian Olympic team.
And the Tehran Times, citing national team sports director Faraz Fatemi, reported that Iranian clubs had previously expressed their readiness to cooperate with the under-23 football team, but did not release their players to participate in friendly matches.
He added that they wanted to participate in the Islamic Solidarity Games to prepare their team for the qualifiers for the 2024 Olympics, but were unable to compete with an under-strength team.
The second group includes Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Azerbaijan.
Tomorrow, the Saudi Arabian Olympic football team will open its matches against Azerbaijan, and on August 10 it will meet with the Moroccan team, the organizing committee of the tournament reports through its official account.
