The Cape Verdean music teacher Paulino Vieira, author of compositions such as “M’Cria Ser Poeta”, will give a unique concert at the Cultural Center of Belém, on February 20, 2023, on the tenth anniversary of the platform “Ao Sul do Mundo ”.
Multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, producer and poet, partner of Cesária Évora on the great stages of the world, Paulino Vieira participated in numerous projects of Cape Verdean artists and beyond, spread throughout the diaspora.
Paulino Vieira was born in Praia Branca, São Nicolau, inheriting the master’s degree from his father, Santos Vieira. In 1974, at the age of 18, he traveled to Lisbon at the invitation of Bana and Luís Morais to assume the keyboards, arrangements and compositions of the third generation of the Voz de Cabo Verde collective.
In the first restaurant-club of Cape Verdean culture —the mythical Monte Cara, owned by the singer Bana—, Paulino Vieira played with the various artists who passed through that stage, influencing a generation of musicians, such as Rui Veloso, elements of Trovante and Heróis do Mar.
Paulino Vieira’s name can be found in the technical archives of bands like Heróis do Mar or the musician António Variações.
At the Great Auditorium of the Cultural Center of Belém, in Lisbon, Paulino Vieira will present all the classics that marked his musical career, in a show that will mark the first decade of “Ao Sul do Mundo”, a cooperative that brings together professionals in the field of artistic production and programming.
