The University of Oregon has apologized to Brigham Young University (BYU) after many of its students began chanting “Fuck you Mormons” during Saturday’s game.
“Religious bigotry is alive and well in Oregon,” Utah Governor Spencer Cox (right) wrote in a tweet, co-authoring the video with the disturbing song.

BYU describes itself as “founded, sponsored, and administered by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.” Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are often called Mormons.
On Sunday, the State of Oregon released a statement saying the student hymn is against “everything the university stands for.”
“The University of Oregon sincerely apologizes for the offensive and embarrassing chants of the student division during yesterday’s game against Brigham Young University,” the university said in a statement. “Such actions go against everything the university stands for and the spirit of competition. As a campus community free of hate, prejudice, or bigotry, we can and will do better.”

Oregon Governor Kate Brown (D) retweeted the university’s statement and said the student’s actions went against the spirit of inclusion.
In Oregon, we strive to be a welcoming and inclusive state for all, regardless of race, religion, gender, or background. Our state and nation have an ugly history of discrimination and intolerance. The streak in yesterday’s game between Oregon and BYU was unacceptable. We must work better. https://t.co/q8aDJ6IMmg
