Elon Musk, a potential future Twitter owner and an outspoken supporter of freedom of speech, recently criticized the platform’s algorithm, calling it manipulative.
Twitter’s algorithm determines the order in which posts appear in a user’s news feed. Users can switch between the chronological order of tweets by tapping the white star icon in the upper-right corner of their home screen.
In a tweet urging his followers to try two different features of Twitter, Musk said that the algorithm manipulates people in ways they don’t know.
Editing your Twitter feed is essential:
1. Press the Home button.
2. Tap the stars in the upper right corner of the screen.
3. Select Recent Tweets. The algorithm manipulates you in ways you are not aware of.

“It was designed to save you time when you haven’t used the app for a while,” Dorsey said.
In another tweet, Dorsey denied the claim that the algorithm was designed to manipulate users.
“It was not meant to be manipulated. It was designed to capture you and do what you are doing. It could have unintended consequences.”

“So everyone should be able to choose whether to use an algorithm and which one. A simple solution to all this.
This author filed a lawsuit in 2018 to disable content filters and moderation mode.
However, Twitter currently offers only two options to its users. The first is an official Twitter enforcement algorithm, the details of which are known only to its creators, making it impossible for the public to know if and how it was manipulated.
The second is a chronological feed that not many know how to activate. If you look, it’s pretty obvious what the three-star icon does on Twitter – as if you didn’t want the platform to know.
