The British Agency has published a new ranking of world universities, the QS World University Rankings 2023, including 48 universities in Russia, 17 of which have risen in the rankings and 16 have retained their previous rankings .
It should be noted that after the start of Russia’s special military operations in Ukraine, the committee overseeing the classification did not accept new universities in Russia, but was satisfied with the universities participating in last year’s classification.
27 American and 17 British universities made it into the top 100 universities in the 2022 ranking. Moscow University is the only university in Russia among the top 100 universities in the world, where it was ranked 78th and is now 75th in the new ranking.
According to the new rankings, Baumen Technical University 230 (281 in 2022), Tomsk University 264 (272), Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology 267 (290), Russian People’s Friendship University 295 (317), Moscow Physics Institute 308 (319), Kazan University 322 (347), Ural Federal University 335 (351), Moscow Institute of International Relations 345 (362), Petersburg Technical University (ITMO) 359 (365), Petersburg University of Technological Sciences 382 (393), Far Eastern Federal University 434 (461) and National Research University of Technology 467 (487).
Interestingly, the committee overseeing the classification did not “honor” Russian universities by mentioning their position in the classification.
It should be noted that this classification depends on several criteria such as the reputation of the university in the academic community, employers ’interest in graduate work, ratio of number of professors and students, ratio of foreign professors and students, and the rate of university participation. professors of international studies and so on.
