More than 100 million people on alert in the US due to high temperatures

More than 100 million Americans are on alert this Friday for high temperatures in the US that, according to the National Weather Service, already broke 60 daily records this week alone.

Among the cities with record high temperatures are Abilene, in the State of Texas, with 43.3°Cand Salt Lake City, Utah, with 41.6°C.

The Meteorological Prediction Center detailed, in a statement, that there will be temperatures above normal until the end of the week, “with a significant part of the population on alert”, adding that in some states, such as Utah, the overnight temperatures will only drop to 26.7°Cthat will only provide “relative relief”.

The Washington Post reported that 48 of the 50 states are in high temperature alert. In Phoenix, Arizona, highs can reach 46.1°C, and there are “at least” 16 states where temperatures are expected to be unusually high.
