“While it may be a small step for one man, it’s a giant leap for the pack.” No, it’s not a mistake. The resemblance to the famous quote by Neil Armstrong, the first human being to set foot on the lunar surface 53 years ago, is intentional: “One small step for man, one giant leap for humanity”.
This is an exciting time for Shaun and for us at ESA. We are ‘very happy’ that he has been selected for the mission and understand that while it may be a small step for a human, it is a giant leap for the pack. [lambkind]”, said David Parker, Director of Human and Robotic Exploration at ESA.
Here, it will be a little sheep, a puppet, in fact, that will represent all the individuals in your group. But not just anyone. The Chone Sheep (shaun the sheepin English) was the first “astronaut” chosen by the European Space Agency (ESA) to integrate the Artemis I mission, which should be launched at the end of August (29) or, in the limit, at the beginning of September (29) . or 5).
The three Artemis missions planned until 2025 aim to return man to the Moon: Artemis I will be an unmanned mission with a woolly traveler; Artemis II will carry human astronauts, but without landing on Earth’s natural satellite; and, if all goes well, Artemis III will lead astronauts to follow in the footsteps of Neil Armstrong and others of his generation.

Shaun Sheep is not going to be launched into space at random: he is training to be an astronaut and familiarizing himself with the American Space Agency (NASA) Orion spacecraft and with the European module from 2020. During this period, Shaun traveled to various locations in Europe and the United States to learn about different aspects of the mission.
Prior to that, Shaun Sheep had performed a parabolic flight in the Airbus ‘Zero G’ A310 aircraft that simulates the feeling of weightlessness one experiences in space, in preparation for the 2019 film “A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon” ( “Shaun the sheep, the movie: The farm strikes back”, in Portugal).
.@this has announced that the first ‘astronaut’ to fly on its Artemis I mission to the Moon is… Shaun! Shaun’s journey on the Orion spaceship will take him further than any human, or sheep, has ever traveled! As for fame, it will not be a problem: he first appeared in 1995, in the Wallace and Gromit film “The Shearing”, and for 15 years he has had his own television series. After that, he has already starred in two movies named after him.
