The sale of new light electric passenger cars (BEV) increased by 44.8% in August compared to the same month and by 58.6% in the first eight months of the year, compared to the same period of 2021, the Automobile Association of Portugal. (ACAP).
According to data published by ACAP in August, 4,361 new electric passenger cars were registered in Portugal, plug and electric hybrids, which corresponds to 39.1% more.
In the eight months of 2022, registrations of this type of vehicle totaled 36,016 units, which represents a year-on-year increase of 39.5%.
Taking into account only electric vehicles, the year-on-year growth of 44.8% in August and 58.6% in the eight months already elapsed, correspond to a total registration of, respectively, 1,163 and 10,055 new passenger cars.
Regarding light goods, the information from ACAP indicates that the market for trams, plug and electric hybrids in this category registered a positive evolution of 307.1% in August compared to the same month of 2021, standing at 57 registered units.
“In accumulated terms, this market reached 452 units, which represented a growth of 222.9% compared to the same period in 2021,” says the association, specifying that with regard only to electric light items, the rise in the number of registrations reached 390.9% in August, compared to the same month of 2021, and 247.6% in the first eight months of this year compared to the same period last year.
As for heavy vehicles (segment that includes the types of passengers and goods), “in the month of August 2022 there was no type of variation since no electric vehicles were registered,” says ACAP.
In accumulated terms, from January to August 2022 there was a year-on-year drop of 66.7%, with only one new electric heavy vehicle being registered.
