A California resident said he received a message after getting into his Tesla telling him not to charge his car. This comes when California electricity regulators issue a “Flexible Alert” urging consumers to voluntarily save electricity between 4 pm and 9 pm due to power outages in the state.
Real estate investor Mike Bohlen tweeted on Tuesday and shared a photo of a message he received from his electric vehicle (EV).

The message is as follows:
The current heatwave is expected to hit California’s power grid this weekend. Use the Scheduled Departure option to ensure your vehicle is set and charged to your preference at departure time, while avoiding the more expensive evening hours of charging between 4 PM and 9 PM.
On Thursday, California was in effect for the eighth day of “Flexible Alert,” which means state residents are told to reduce their energy use, including not plugging in their electric vehicles.
Ironically, California regulators recently approved plans to ban nearly all gasoline-powered vehicles and require electric vehicles by 2035.
CALIFORNIA: We are now at Flex Alert.
What does it mean? During this record heat wave, we all need to save as much energy as possible.
What you need to do until 21:00 today:
– Set the thermostats to 78
– Turn off unnecessary lights
– Avoid using large appliances— Gavin Newsom (@GavinNewsom) September 7, 2022
“Flexible Alerts” are issued by the California Independent Systems Operator, which operates the network for most of California and parts of Nevada. Residents are also asked not to use large appliances in their homes.
Bohlen isn’t the only Tesla owner to post a similar message on social media. Others also took to Twitter to share photos of similar posts from their electric cars.
“The heatwave is expected to impact the grid in Texas over the next few days. A Texas electric vehicle owner said in a statement, the grid operator recommends avoiding charging during peak hours between 3 pm and 8 am whenever possible, to aid in the state’s demand management efforts. ” said.

In July, Elon Musk reportedly warned Tesla customers in Texas not to charge their electric vehicles during rush hour to avoid overloading the state’s power grid amid an ongoing heatwave.
