The head of the Russian company “Kalashnikov” Alan Lushnikov announced that his company may increase the main caliber of the “Kalashnikov” machine gun, which is currently equivalent to 5.42 mm.
In an interview with the Russian agency “Novosti”, “The Pentagon has signed an agreement to provide a new automatic rifle, whose bullet caliber will change from 5.56 mm to 6.8 mm. We are also looking into this matter and cannot rule. More than 5.65 mm caliber New technologies brought by modern technology regarding the protection of the soldier and other conditions depending on the conditions of the transition to a large caliber. We will work hard to develop this issue in the future.”
The head of “Kalashnikov” announced that during the development of the new “Junior” military uniform for the Russian soldier, a new machine gun of a new caliber may appear, as the company’s specialists will try to solve the technical this problem.
It is worth noting that the 5.56 mm caliber was developed in the Soviet Union in the early seventies, and at that time this caliber was characterized by the accuracy of fire, good bullet trajectory and small weight. Today the sharp power of a 5.45 caliber bullet does not meet the modern requirements for the protection of the soldier.
It is worth noting that the company “Kalashnikov” announced on September 21 that it will make technical changes to the design of the “AKA-12” machine gun, taking into account the experience of its use in military operations in Ukraine.
