In the CNN Newsroom on Monday, the network’s David Gergen thought Democrats allegedly expected President Joe Biden to run again in 2024, but wondered if he would run.
Gergen urged 79-year-old Biden and 76-year-old former President Donald Trump, who has yet to make another bid, “to give up this election because of their age”.
“I believe that Donald Trump and Joe Biden should have refused to participate in this election because of their age,” said Gergen. “I think it’s both – you know, whatever you say about Biden or Trump as political leaders, the truth is, the world’s most difficult position and the world’s most powerful position someone has to take office. You know, when the president makes a mistake in the judiciary and it can have disastrous consequences, I don’t think an 80-year-old person is qualified to make those kinds of decisions in four years. So I think it will serve both sides well. “I think it would be good for the country if they support the idea that it’s our turn, let’s move on to a younger one, I’m here to help as much as I can.”
“[I] I think the issue of age needs to be addressed and explored more extensively by healthcare professionals and others,” he added.
