Former CNN host Chris Cuomo is planning a comeback called his own podcast. Chris Cuomo’s project where he swore never to be an enemy to the network that fired him.
In the podcast, which airs two episodes per week on Thursdays, Cuomo will “take a look at today’s urgent current affairs and explore how all media outlets are covering these stories”. According to the show’s YouTube page description, it will feature “in-depth interviews with reporters, trendsetters, and other influencers.”
By hollywood reporter (THR), the first episode of Cuomo featured clips from his recent trip to Ukraine, as well as interviews with actor Sean Penn and Andriy Yermak, the chief of staff of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. But the big moment came when the elephant in the room returned: his former boss.
“With regards to CNN, I will never be an enemy. CNN has great people, CNN has great cause, and I wish everyone the best and I miss so many people,” he said. But now it’s time for me to move on and I believe I can be bigger than before.”
Cuomo apologized to his former employees for not saying goodbye properly.
“The people who made my show number one from scratch on CNN and kept it there,” Cuomo said. “They never get the recognition they deserve, it’s always about hair and teeth, people on TV. I couldn’t say goodbye and I regret that. I’m sorry that circumstances make it impossible to say face-to-face what each of you means to me.”
Last December, CNN suspended it indefinitely after the text messages revealed by Chris Cuomo showed he used media sources to discredit his brother Andrew’s #MeToo accusers, raising “serious concerns” about his ethical behavior. When Andrew Cuomo left his post as governor of New York, Chris Cuomo first told CNN that he had helped the disgraced politician simply as a brother, not as a true mentor:
Chris broke our rules when he admitted to us that his brother was giving advice to his employees, and we publicly admitted it. But we also appreciated her unique position, and she understood that she had to put family first and work second.
But these documents show a higher level of involvement in his brother’s efforts than we previously knew. As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely for further review.
A few days later, CNN announced that it had fired Chris Cuomo after learning “additional information” about his behavior:
Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week for further review of new information that has come to light regarding his role in his older brother’s defense. We hired a reputable law firm to conduct the review and fired it immediately. Additional information emerged during this review. Despite the termination, we will investigate accordingly.
Cuomo said on his podcast that he doesn’t regret helping his brother.
“For me, the past is past, and it won’t do you any good if I object to what has been said and done about my brother,” he said. “And there are some extraordinary cases that I must respect, but let me be clear: I regret how it ended, but I will never regret helping my family. I promised my father that I would always be by my brother’s side and always be there for me, just as he was always there for me. like, just like my sisters were there for me and always there for him. This is family.”
