Bokhari: Big Tech plans to stop red tide by 2022

Republicans believe a “red wave” is inevitable in November. But the Democrats still have one big advantage: an ever-tightening censorship of big technology that will be used to protect undecided voters from exposure to even the most popular conservative news before the next election. Republicans will have a strong message – but what if voters aren’t allowed to hear it?

Ahead of the 2020 US presidential election, Google has completely removed Breitbart News from its search results. Compared to 2016, Breibart News entered the 2020 election with a 99.7 percent drop in the visibility of its links in Google search. The censorship was so severe that untitled blogs with plagiarized headlines and content appeared in search results before the original Breitbart News articles. When Google searched for the term “Joe Biden”, Breitbart News reduced the visibility of its links to zero.

Then, weeks before the election, Big Tech got together to cover up one of the biggest stories of the cycle: Hunter Biden’s laptop story. A post-election poll showed that 17 percent of Biden voters would have reconsidered if they only knew the laptop story, not counting the hundreds of Breitbart News stories that were inaccessible to voters due to Google’s censorship.

Biden’s lead in three variable states is less than one percentage point, so technology censorship is ultimately a decisive factor. There’s no law preventing Silicon Valley from not only repeating that plan in 2022, but scaling it to a massive scale – and that’s exactly what they’ve done. The foundation is prepared in several ways:

No matter how mainstream you are, you are not safe. NewsGuard, a Pentagon-funded anti-disinformation organization whose software has been adopted by millions of school teachers across the country, recently removed Fox News from its list of reliable and unreliable news sources.

NewsGuard users will now see a red warning label next to Fox News links on the web, which will indicate to users that the source was deemed untrustworthy by an organization created by Steven Brill and L. Gordon Krovitz in 2018. “Disinformation” in the early years of media panic.

Fox News and Breitbart News now have negative red scores from NewsGuard. This means that before the 2022 midterm elections, NewsGuard warned its users not to read the two leading conservative online news sources.

Naturally, sources supporting the Russiagate scam and calling Hunter Biden’s laptop “Russian disinformation” – a phrase repeated by the NewsGuard co-founder – don’t get this warning label.

Silicon Valley has also found a way to censor all conservative media at once. The Left has been screaming and shouting about the conservative media’s success on Facebook for years. Despite algorithm changes that have reduced the traffic of conservative websites by up to 20 percent in the case of Breitbart News, the conservative media continues to stifle competition.

Facebook has an answer: if it wins the news war on conservative media platforms, they will suppress all the news at once. This month Wall Street Magazine The platform is reportedly shifting resources from its News tab and news distribution to the “creative economy.” This means that the news will not be shown as much to users whether they want it or not. This is one way to prevent unwanted narratives from reaching the public at a time when news of the failure of Democratic rule in the DC area is rising.

This is a repeat of a change that nearly split activity on Donald Trump’s page when Facebook reduced the visibility of political posts after the 2016 election.

Meanwhile, the constant drumming of “disinformation” panic in the media continues. NPR, funded by taxpayers, publishes a series of stories about the crisis that focus on stories produced by the media and broadcast almost exclusively among conservative groups. Like “fake news”, “disinformation” and “disinformation” weren’t buzzwords before Trump’s victory, but they’re everywhere now: backed by think tanks, backed by federally funded institutions. The government that Congress is debating. The committee suddenly became a new responsibility of the federal government. The elite create such a crisis – each institution they control saturates the information environment to create a sense of fear.

You can determine the purpose of such a panic by its purpose. Ask any prominent conservative or even non-aligned journalist if they’ve been warned for spreading “disinformation” on social media, and they’ll probably say yes. Victims include journalists like Alex Berenson, senators like Rand Paul and, of course, the former president. Left-wing disinformation doesn’t come naturally, whether it’s about gender differences or police and crime statistics, Russiagate said.

The purpose of the disinformation panic has always been to de-legitimise conservative views and provide an excuse for big technology to censor them. This trend will only get worse as the Supreme Court continues to block efforts to combat corporate censorship. Small local radio and TV stations currently face stricter political neutrality requirements than Google, Facebook or Twitter.

Previous regulators may have worked hard to prevent even the smallest communication platforms from inappropriately influencing elections, but today’s Supreme Court doesn’t seem to care about the most powerful platforms ever to exist. Detailed news tech laws designed to give users some legal action against tech giants, especially those passed in Texas, have yet to reach the Supreme Court.

5. Institutionalization of Censorship – Facebook’s $150 Million Supervisory Board

With real US courts tied, Big Tech is funding a parallel justice system to replace it. Facebook recently announced that it has raised $150 million in funding for its “Overview Board,” a private organization where users can request the return of their censored accounts. Naturally, this “Facebook Supreme Court” filled with leftists and globalists failed to undo the most extreme act of political censorship by Silicon Valley – the blacklisting of Donald Trump.

As with the “disinformation” panic, the Supervisory Board’s job is to provide visibility and legitimacy to Facebook’s crackdown on non-progressive views.

Before the 2022 midterm elections, if Silicon Valley has a way, online voters will only see what the elite want them to see. That January 6 was the worst attack on democracy. Republicans killing people by showing masks doesn’t work. Forced abortion by women in red states to have an abortion on their shoulders.

In other words, Silicon Valley ensures that establishment disinformation gets a mouthful while any conservative counter-arguments are silenced. We already know it works since 2020. The question is, what will Republicans do about it?
