Zionist police decided to launch an investigation into the behavior of their members who attacked the funeral of the slain journalist Shirin Abu Aqla and caused the coffin to fall from the hands of the mourners for a short time during his funeral in Jerusalem.
Pictures show police beating batons with batons during Abu Aqeel’s funeral on Friday, according to witnesses, who were killed by Israeli forces on Wednesday during an attack on the occupied West Bank.
Scenes of the funeral and killing of a 51-year-old Palestinian journalist who is also an American citizen have provoked international condemnation and called for an investigation.
And Israeli police said in a statement on Saturday that the commissioner had ordered the investigation to be completed in the next few days.
“Israeli police support their members, but as a professional organization seeking to learn and improve, they will learn from this incident,” the statement added.
According to the statement, police said they used force when hundreds of rioters tried to sabotage the ceremony and harm police.
Before the funeral, large crowds gathered to escort the coffin from a hospital in East Jerusalem to a Catholic church in the nearby Old City, and many mourners raised Palestinian flags.
The Israeli police then moved and pushed the mourners with batons, then the riot police beat the coffin holders, causing them to lose control of the coffin and fall.
Police removed Palestinian flags from mourners and threw stun grenades to disperse them.
