A spokesman for the Iranian city of Dezful, Ahmad Awaei, said “a man was killed during protests in the city of Andimeshq in the southwestern province of Khuzestan” due to high prices and shortages of certain food items.

In statements to the Iranian Labor News Agency (ILNA), Avai said that “the situation in Dezful has become calm after several days of protests” and stated that he “has no information on the number of people arrested by the security forces during the protests.”

On the other hand, local sources claimed that 3 people were killed during protests in the cities of Dezful, Andimeshk and Farasan.

On Wednesday, demonstrations were held in several regions of Iran due to rising food prices amid the removal of subsidies by the government. Security forces intervened to disperse the demonstrations and fired tear gas after chants against officials and the government.

The official IRNA news agency stated that “the security service arrested 22 people, including 15 in Dezful, on charges of leading demonstrations and 7 in the city of Yasuj on charges of directing protesters to damage public property.”
