The Elysee Palace today announced the appointment of Labor Minister Elizabeth Bourne as head of the new government, following the resignation of French Prime Minister Jean-Castis today.
The move paves the way for the expected reshuffle of Macron, who, after being re-elected last April, said his new government team should be more “focused” and with fewer ministers.
Macron has previously said he is looking for someone with socio-political credentials to run for prime minister.
Prior to joining the Macron administration, Bourne worked with Socialist Party ministers during his brief tenure as environment minister in 2019, then took over the ministry of labor and oversaw negotiations with unions, which reduced benefits. Unemployment became a job for some job seekers.
