“Someone in the Stockholm area has been confirmed to have monkeypox,” the Swedish Public Health Agency said in a statement, explaining that the infected person was not seriously ill, but was receiving treatment.

He added that the health authority is currently investigating infection control centers in the region if there are more cases in Sweden.
Health authorities in Italy announced that the first case of the monkeypox virus had been registered at Spallanzani Hospital in Rome, adding that “the person who arrived after staying in the Canary Islands remained isolated”.
The rare disease usually presents with fever, muscle aches, swelling of the lymph nodes, chills, fatigue, and redness of the hands and face.
Stating that it was “closely monitoring the situation”, the EU agency recommended that “suspicious cases be immediately isolated, diagnosed and reported”.
Dozens of suspected or confirmed cases of monkeypox have been discovered in Europe and North America since early May, raising fears that the disease may begin to spread.
The UK reported a total of nine cases in the country after announcing the first infection in early May.
Spain, Portugal, Canada and the United States have also reported confirmed or suspected cases of monkeypox.
