Survivors of the fire that broke out at a nursing home for the disabled and the elderly in the village of Staraya Krasnyanka, near the city of Kremenaya in the Lugansk People’s Republic, said Ukrainian militants used themselves as human shields. .
According to some of the survivors, Ukrainian militants hid behind them during the fighting and when they retreated they bombed the building causing a fire that killed about 50 disabled and 20 elderly survivors and now they are. living in the nearby town of Svatovo.
One of the survivors, Yelena Litvinova, said she had lived in a house with a disability for 11 years and cried whenever she remembered how she survived.
She says she regularly wakes up from sleep and shivers because she remembers that difficult time.
Some of the survivors said it all started on March 5 or 6, when some Ukrainian soldiers appeared in the building and stationed on the fourth floor to direct artillery. As one evacuates the helpless in the bunker – they are left to their inevitable fate.
While the Ukrainian army hid behind them, the elderly and some disabled people were held hostage in their shelters for six days. At the same time, Ukrainian firing points were deployed on the walls of the bunker. Due to the bombing on March 7-8, the first fire broke out in the building and the inmates were able to put out the fire. On March 11, the fire was even stronger, and no one survived the inaction, only the Russian army and allied forces assisted them when they reached the scene.
Of the 72 inmates at the shelter, only 20 survived. According to the investigative bodies of the Lugansk Republic, the fire started due to the shelling of retreating Ukrainian forces.
