AMSTERDAM (AP). A Dutch court is examining the evidence Tuesday and prosecutors are expected to seek sentences in the case of two suspects in the deadly murder of crime reporter Peter R. de Vries, who was brutally murdered nearly a year ago. An outburst of national grief and the government’s commitment to reform Amsterdam’s increasingly violent drug underworld.
Prosecutors suspect Delano G., a 21-year-old Dutchman, shot De Vries at close range on a street in central Amsterdam on July 6 last year. The reporter and broadcaster died nine days later from his injuries. If found guilty, the suspect will face the maximum life sentence.
Prosecutors said the two suspects were arrested less than an hour after they fired the gun used to shoot De Vries at a fleeing vehicle on a highway near The Hague.
Bay refused to answer questions about his alleged involvement in the shooting. Pole Kamil E., the alleged driver of the vehicle, denied on Tuesday any involvement in the shooting.

Prosecutors have not released the name of the suspect they believe ordered the killing of De Vries, who was 64 at the time of the murder.
De Vries’ son and daughter are expected to make statements in Amsterdam District Court later on Tuesday that had an impact on the victim. Lawyers for the defendants will testify at a separate hearing next week, when the judges will announce their decision on July 14.
De Vries rose to fame as a crime journalist who wrote and wrote a bestselling book about the 1983 kidnapping of beer tycoon Freddie Heineken. Later in his career, he campaigned relentlessly to solve the cold case. Vries was a counselor before he was shot, and was trusted by a witness in the case of the alleged leader and other members of the criminal gang that the police called “a greasy killing machine.”
Suspected gang leader Riduan Taghi was deported from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to the Netherlands in 2019 and is currently on trial.
