A heliport, a Jacuzzi and a winter garden on the platform. Precious stones, gold metal accessories, delicate rugs, delicate silk fabrics and high gloss paint systems. Luxury accessories are present in the Russian superyacht Amadea, which is valued at 325 million dollars, about 303 million euros.
Even when not in the sea, the Amadea requires a crew of 24 sailors and engineers for your maintenance. Without proper care and temperature and humidity controls, which are often used to preserve valuable works of art, Amadea would rapidly deteriorate.
The luxuries that it has and the expenses that its maintenance implies show that the superyacht cannot be bought by just anyone. “There are a very, very limited number of buyers who can afford its upkeep, let alone its purchase price,” the ship’s captain told The Guardian.
Amadea was anchored in Fiji, but this Tuesday the US won a battle court to seize the superyacht, which they say is owned by one of the richest men in Russia: the oligarch Suleiman Kerimov, sanctioned by Washington for the war in Ukraine.
But the identity of the owner of the boat remains a mystery. Lawyers for the company that owns the superyacht, Millemarin Investments, say they work for former Russian oil chief Eduard Khudainatov. Ukrainian authorities believe gold tycoon Suleiman Kerimov has owned the ship since the fall of 2021.
In turn, the Italian police investigate whether the superyacht belongs to the Russian president himselfVladimir Putin, who, like Kerimov, is blacklisted in both Europe and the United States.
Eduard Khudainatov was exempt from sanctions until last week, when the European Union included him in the new package for the benefits he made running a major Russian oil company. The yacht connection was not mentioned and the Americans believe that “there is no reason to believe that I have the financial resources to buy the Amadea” and the Scheherazade – a luxury ship with six covers and two helipads seized in Tuscany after the start of the war.
[Eduard Khudainatov] He’s a second-tier oligarch (at best) who wouldn’t have the resources to buy and maintain another billion dollars worth of luxury yachts.”
US authorities now have an investigation into who owns Amadea, as well as destination of this ship which is one of the most expensive in the world.
