Monica Lewinsky had moments of nervous breakdown during the production of “Impeachment: American Crime Story,” said the protagonist of the true story dramatized in the series, at an event at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood.
“It’s been hard. I don’t want to sugarcoat the pill. It was very complicated and there were times when I had nervous breakdowns that surprised us all,” said Lewinsky, who worked as a producer on the series that tells the backstory of the sex scandal with former President Bill Clinton in 1998.
“There were aspects that were easy and others that were much more complicated than I expected,” she said, joking, asking where the psychologist she hired to help her with this work was.

“It was insane that the full weight of the United States government, on both sides, would come down on these people in such a devastating and unnecessary way,” he said.
Annaleigh Ashford, who plays Paula Jones (a central figure in the investigation that led to the impeachment), also stressed the importance of showing the other side.
“What was wrong with the initial narrative is that it was a story about women told by men,” she said. “This is a retelling from a women’s perspective and a focus on a moment in history when we should have been better.”
Margo Martindale, who plays Lucianne Goldberg, highlighted how Beanie Goldstein was the right choice to play Lewinsky in this dramatization of a scandal that has reached global proportions.
