Physical attack on Venezuelan opposition leader

According to members of the parallel government, Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido was physically attacked while visiting a rural area.

In a video clip posted on “Instagram” on Saturday night, Guaido described the attack as an “ambush” on a vegetable plantation in the San Carlos district, 270 km southwest of the capital Caracas.

But he insisted that this would not prevent him from continuing to “meet with voters”.

An image accompanying the opposition manifesto shows Juan Guaido crowding him and blocking because someone tore his shirt.

Guaido accused members of the ruling party of carrying out the attack.

The same government said a group affiliated with Venezuela’s United Socialist Party had “defeated and insulted” Guaido, who was touring the country’s South American states seeking to unite his party ahead of the planned general election.

There has been no response yet from United Socialist Party leaders, who typically make statements on social media or state television.

Last week, Guaido supporters were greeted by President Nicolas Maduro’s allies in the western city of Maracaibo with plastic chairs and melee.

The United States and other countries recognize Guaidó as the interim president of Venezuela.

These countries withdrew their recognition of Maduro after he was accused of fraud in the 2018 presidential election.

At the time, Guaido was driving a large crowd of fans into the streets, but most of that momentum waned.

Its popularity dropped from nearly 60 percent three years ago to less than 15 percent in February.
