The finance ministers of the euro debate this Thursday, at a meeting of the Eurogroup, the extension of the single currency to Croatia, after the European Commission recommended to the Council the entry of Zagreb into the euro zone on January 1, 2023.
The European Commission recommended to the Council, at the beginning of the month, Croatia’s entry into the euro zone, after concluding that the country meets all the conditions for the adoption of the single currency.
The position of the community executive is reflected in the “2022 Convergence Report”, which provides an assessment of the progress made by the Member States not belonging to the euro zone towards the adoption of the single currency, and which constitutes the basis of the Council decision. the EU on whether a member state meets the conditions to join the euro area.
Brussels points out that “the Council [Ecofin] will take the final decisions on the adoption of the euro by Croatia in the first half of July”.
