General Patrick Sanders, the new commander of the British army, has told his troops to prepare for a possible confrontation with Russia in World War III.
According to British media reports, Sanders said that the Russia-Ukraine war shook the foundations of global security.
The British general vowed to re-form an army that could defeat Russia in battle.
He added that British troops must be “brave enough to prepare for war in Europe again.”
In his first message to troops since taking command of the British Army, Sanders said the world had changed since the start of the war in Ukraine.

“Now there is an urgent need for an army that can fight alongside our allies and defeat Russia in battle,” Sanders said.
“We will be a generation that must prepare the army for war again in Europe,” he said, referring to World War II.
He added: “I am the first (British) Chief of Staff since 1941 to command the Army in the light of a ground war in Europe involving a continental power (Russia).”
He stressed that the Russia-Ukraine war emphasizes that “our main goal is to protect Britain by preparing for war and winning ground wars.”
