Until this Monday, Portugal granted 43,483 temporary protections to Ukrainian citizens and foreigners who fled the war in Ukraine, the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) announced.
On the occasion of World Refugee Day, the total number of requests for temporary protection validated by the SEF since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24 includes 27,135 women, 16,348 men and 12,825 minorsdivided into accompanied and unaccompanied categories.
In the case of minors unaccompanied by relatives or an accredited legal representative, but “without current or imminent danger”, the situation is reported to the Public Ministry (MP) of the geographical area of residence declared to the SEF, for the appointment of a legal representative. and eventual promotion process for the protection of minors.
The SEF said in a statement that “in the case of an unaccompanied child, in the presence of a person other than the parent or accredited legal representative, but in current or imminent danger to life or serious impairment of physical or mental integrity, he / The Commission for the Protection of Children and Youth (CPCJ) is immediately contacted in the area of its competence, so that it adopts the emergency procedures and provides adequate assistance.”
Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, the SEF says that has already reported 731 cases to the MP and 15 cases to the CPCJ.
According to figures published by the SEF, the Portuguese municipalities with the highest number of temporary protections granted are still Lisbon (8,315), followed by Cascais (2,676), Porto (1,774), Sintra (1,509) and Albufeira (1,185).
